This post focuses on how images communicate meaning in contemporary visual culture. Before studying this topic, I did not fully consider how images influence people’s understanding of the world.
During the learning process, I analysed different types of images, including advertisements and social media posts. I realised that images are often designed to attract attention and communicate messages quickly. Elements such as colour, composition, and framing can all influence how an image is interpreted.
The theory of visual culture suggests that images are not neutral. According to Nicholas Mirzoeff (2015), visual media plays a key role in shaping social meaning and cultural understanding. This idea helped me understand that images can reflect power, values, and ideology.
One challenge I faced was analysing images critically rather than just describing them. However, through practice, I improved my ability to interpret deeper meanings behind visuals.
In the future, I would like to further develop my visual analysis skills, especially in relation to media and advertising. This will be useful for both academic work and creative projects.
Overall, this topic changed the way I look at images. I now understand that visual content is carefully constructed and can influence audience perception.
